OuR Partners
Thank you for helping move the PRIMERO study forward!
PRIMERO is a joint project between the University of California, San Francisco, National Jewish Health, and the Center for Pediatric Pulmonology. We have the generous support of the local community through HIMA San Pablo-Caguas, our main recruitment center, and C3TEC in Caguas, Puerto Rico. In addition, we are supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health and the Sandler Foundation through the Sandler Asthma Basic Research Center. PRIMERO benefits from a team of scientists with more than 20 years of collaboration studying the genetic and environmental interactions of asthma in Puerto Ricans. More than 200 publications in the most prestigious scientific journals have arisen from our relationship.
Our initial funding commitment from the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is through the Center for Pediatric Pneumology, HIMA-Caguas, and other Puerto Rican physicians and collaborators. We recruited more than 2,000 pregnant Puerto Rican women and their newborn babies to the PRIMERO study since recruitment began in 2020 and are currently following the respiratory health of these babies for at least five years.
Our partners and sponsors are very important and we will do a lot together to improve respiratory diseases in children.
